Procedure

1. Description

There are four different coloured mops used at sydco in the cleaning process.  The Cleaners choose to use colour coded mops to reflect the factory environmentally graded areas.
These mops when soiled are collected from the various cleaners’ rooms throughout the site and taken to the laundry for washing and sanitising.  They are then returned to the cleaners’ rooms and sorted for reuse.

The colours of the mops include:

a. Green for Environmental Grade E

b. Blue for Environmental Grade D

c. Yellow for Environmental Grade C

d. White for Environmental Grade C and D spill buckets

e. Mop Cleaning does not apply on sterile areas Grade B and A.

2. Mop Cleaning Procedure

2.1.             Switch ON the air ventilation system as soon as you enter the room.

2.2.             Fill the sink with approx. 20L of water and, using the measuring cap, add 250ml of Sodium Hypochlorite.  Place soiled mops in the solution for ten (10) minutes.

2.3.             Remove the mops from the sink, wearing the appropriate personal protective equipments, and place them in a washing machine.  Do not put more than twenty (20) mops into a machine, then spread them evenly to keep the machine balanced.

Note:    All mops must be washed separately according to colour, except Yellow and White, which may be washed in the same cycle.

2.4.             Set the Water Level on High and Wash Cycle on Short Wash (29 minutes) with 50ml cup of washing detergent.

2.5.             Remove the mops from the washing machine and place in the Extractor for 15 minutes. Do not put any more than twenty (20) mops in the Extractor at any one time. When completed, place them into the dryer for until they are completely dried.

2.6.             When the mops have been dried: Bag, date and tag them for their appropriate colour coded area.

2.7.             When all washing and drying has finished, all equipment (washing machines, Extractor, Dryers and air ventilation system) is to be turned OFF at the power points before leaving the room.

2.8.             The mops will be sorted and returned to the various Cleaners’ rooms.
