Purpose

To standardise the types of containers used for handling all types of waste, recycling material and waste from the Manufacturing facilities.

Scope

The procedures set out in this SOP are the responsibility of every person working in Manufacturing.

Procedure

1.            Wheeled Bins for Manufacturing

1.1.         Yellow Bins – Rejected PRODUCT:

Labelling on bins: Filled Rejects

Examples: Product Waste

Note: These products can have labelling.

These bins can also be placed by production staffs in the WIP area for Warehouse staffs to remove and empty.  Replacement bins can be collected from WIP.

1.2.         Black Bins – Rejected PACKAGING

Labelling on bins: Non-Filled Rejects

Examples: Packaging: Cartons, Labels, Leaflets, Printed Products etc

These bins can also be placed by production staffs in the WIP area for Warehouse staffs to remove and empty.  Replacement bins can be collected from WIP. These bins are to be collected from the laboratory area.

1.3.         Orange Bins – Hard Plastic Waste

Labelling on bins: Hard Plastic Waste or Plastic Waste

These bins must only contain waste plastic material that is not printed.
Examples – waste parisons and plastic cut-offs etc.

These bins can also be placed by production staffs in the WIP area for Warehouse staffs to remove and empty.  Replacement bins can be collected from WIP.

1.4.         Light Blue Bins – General Waste

Labelling on bins: General Waste – NO METAL

Examples: Waste that is not printed, label backing, non-recyclable paper waste, disposable wipes not used with solvent.

NOTE: No METAL is to be placed in these bins as these wastes are recyclable.  These bins can also be placed by production staffs in the WIP area for Warehouse staffs to remove and empty.  Replacement bins can be collected from WIP.

1.5.         Maroon Bins – General Waste in all outside Production Areas including Warehouse, Cafeteria dock and Engineering Store

General Waste – Cafeteria
General Waste – Engineering Store

These bins are labelled as general waste but are located outside of the manufacturing area..

1.6.         Red Bins – Solvent Soaked Items:

Examples: IPA soaked disposable wipes, Gloves, Ink Soaked Cloths.

These bins can also be placed by production staffs in the WIP area for Warehouse staffs to remove and empty.  Replacement bins can be collected from WIP.

1.7.         Light Green Bins – Recycle Paper and Cardboard

Labelling on bins: Cardboard and Paper for Recycling

These bins must only contain waste cardboard and paper material that is not printed.  Only waste cardboard boxes that have been collapsed must be placed in these bins.  No other waste is to be present.
Examples –used A4 printer paper, shippers, cardboard, etc.

These bins can also be placed by production staffs in the WIP area for Warehouse staffs to remove and empty.  Replacement bins can be collected from WIP.

2.            Exchange of Full Bins for Empty Bins

Once the wheeled bins arrive in WIP the Warehouse staff will distribute the waste to the appropriate area for disposal.

2.1.         Yellow bins

The contents of bin are emptied into a stainless steel Hopper that is then transferred to the for wet shredding and disposal.

2.2.         Black bins

The contents of the wheeled bin are emptied into the Dry Waste Shredder.

2.3.         Blue Bins

The contents of the wheeled bin are emptied into the Dry Waste Shredder.

2.4.         Maroon Bins

The contents of these bins are tipped into the open bin for disposing later.

2.5.         Orange bins

These bins are to be kept outside for waste contractor to collect.

2.6.         Light Green bins

. These bins are to be kept outside for waste contractor to collect

2.7.         Red bins

These bins are to be kept outside for waste contractor to collect.

3.            Office Desk Bins

All office bins in the Manufacturing E grade offices are emptied by the Contract Cleaners.
